More CILIP
From James Christie
And the silence from CILIP is deafening! Not much more I can say, guys. The gauntlet has been thrown down fair and square. Reply or I will take your silence to mean that the "profession" is well and truly in terminal decline and you don't want to admit it! Funny, because a library worker did admit this to me this week, quite freely.
I've also noted Shirley Burnham's comments about library workers being unable to express their opinions. That is Orwellian fascism.
Incidentally, nice rebuttal of Gary, Perkins. Books have always been one of the ways. No one disputes that, but they are equally as important as the other ways, and I am truly sick of their consistent denigration.
It does seem to be very difficult to get through to CILIP HQ at present. Is the big review actually taking place? Does anyone know?

Comments
I recently asked CILIP London about their members views regarding the LLCP and got short shrift, they said why don't you ask the chief exec so I did and got nout. CILIP have been charateristically toothless on this subject and most others of importance to the profession, who really do they represent?

In fairness, I received an email from Bob McKee yesterday. He has been in New Zealand for the last couple of weeks (were the results that bad?) and will be in touch once he goes over the comments from the focus groups. I only hope that if the results/comments ARE that bad, CILIP holds its hands up and says so in plain English. I honestly think now that a lot of the problems of the modern day are both created and exacerbated by a refusal to address and solve problems using clear language and hard common sense. For example, The Guardian recently published a social worker's blog where he commented that most of his colleagues were essentially being hired for their ability to talk flowery rubbish. So if it turns out that CILIP and/or librarianship in general is up **** creek, could Bob please say so without resort to that old cliche "a challenging situation." We might, just might, then have a chance of changing things...
Bob, it's up to you!

I wonder which country Biddy Fisher is in. She, too, seems unable to answer emails. It is strange about these foreign countries, I thought the internet worked everywhere. James gets a signal in Scotland. My goodness.
