Poor publishing
Only the worst publisher in the world could produce his one book of the year (15 months late) on Boxing day. Nevertheless I am very proud of my new title which tells the story of the British army's horrible defeat in Afghanistan in 1841. The jacket is much better than the one on the website and we shall print it here as soon as technology permits.

Not such a bad date Tim. The demoralised and incompetent Elphinstone dithered his way through Xmas 1841 before leading 5,000 ill-equipped troops and their families plus 12,000 camp followers to their deaths in an attempt to make the relative safety of Jalalabad across high passes and waist high snow. A very timely reminder of lessons we still need to learn about Afghanistan.

Thank you Mr Atkins--- or will it be Lord Atkins of Bloggington Bay in the New Year's honours list after all the envelopes you have sent to The Queen and her Ministers these past few months?
You are quite right. Most people believe that the entire army was killed by the beginning of Feb 1842 with the exception of Surgeon Bryden-- but is that the whole story? You'll have to get hold of a copy to find out.
How is the Mayor of Slough, and the burghers?
