Thanks to Richard Charkin again

Tomorrow I hope I will be able to publish a copy of the speech that Stephen Page made to the conference of librarians this week- but for tonight, many thanks again to Richard for an interesting entry on his blog today. I suspect if England had bowled Australia out for 32, libraries would not have got a mention -- so I am grateful for the quixotic abilities of the English cricket team- for one day only.

Have a look at the dove grey reader`s blog today.. about the free books for toddlers scheme... the government is giving out thousands of these pcks and the next stage striking while the iron is hot, should be to send all the parents letters saying 'now why don`t you join your library.. here is where it is, here is how you do it... '.. shall I write about this on my blog ? can`t e-mail as server down but you`ll get this... look at the DGR blog anyway.

Feel it's worth pointing out that 'the government' isn't handing out these packs, it's usually managed by the library service, and all the Bookstart packs have local library details, some kind of leaflet inviting parents and toddlers in and usually a membership form.

Thank you Simon. Can you give them a card instead of a membership form? Fill the whole thing in for the family?

Cards a bit tricky due to most authorities needing ID or consent forms filled in.

Some places I think do put in adult forms - although some authorities don't have membership forms - just an ID requirement and details are entered straight away.

Bookstart is the best thing that has happened to libraries since Carnegie. No question.
