MLA closes down the Library Statistics publisher
Almost every day someone says you couldn't make up the things that appear on this site: well for today here is the news that in response to the latest figures and analysis from LISU the famous publisher of Library performance data, the MLA has decided (without having made any clear plan for an alternative) to close the whole thing down and to stop them telling the truth.
Instead of that Chris Batt wants to find a better way to celebrate the satisfaction that libraries bring. Move over Josef!

The whole issue of library "performance" is directly affected by investment in new books. Visitor figures drop when locals feel that they have read everything in their local library that is of interest to them. It really is as simple as that. Those who are making the decisions to reduce the level of books still further are well aware of this. One of the biggest scandals in this "open" society is that the results of local consultations are seldom available to the public, particularly in the libraries themselves.
