Many thanks to Private Eye
I put out an SOS about Newington library about an hour ago and I'm very pleased to report that Private Eye have already sent the editor's charabanc brim full of reporters, photographers, cartoonists, bananas and joke makers, down to Southwark to sort out the council.

Yippeeeeee!
On his trusty steed comes Ian Hislop, to the rescue? We can rely on Ian and his team,to stirrup
the council.

The Newington Reference Library is almost directly across the road from what was until recent years the Labour Party headquarters. (They moved north, across the river, when they became New Labour, I understand. Gritty, urban Walworth Road in the borough of Southwark, where I lived for seven years and where my children were born. I passed that library on the bus nearly every day. Though I'm in Massachusetts now, and just an engaged reader (as well as sponsor) of this blog, Tim has struck my heart with this one.
