Library Management systems

Since my note about the astronomical cost and incompatiblity of library management systems in public libraries, I have received several notes. The best of which says "You have just made yourself a whole load of new enemies- don't you care?"

However Alan Kellogg makes the obvious point:

"Tim,

What is the purpose of library management systems? What are they supposed to do? There might be low cost or free alternatives available. Open Source CMS has demo versions of a number of free content management system engines available to try out. One might be what U. K. libraries are looking for."
